Assiduous

I assiduously completed my homework to ensure I would do well on the upcoming test.

Compelling

I made a compelling argument against the teacher’s inkling to reschedule the test for the day after because I had studied for 4 hours the night before.

Diligent

A diligent worker makes sure everything is done well, successfully and completely.

Dogged

I had dogged determination to make the party a success because the one before had failed tremendously.

Endure

I had to have a great amount of stamina to endure the harsh conditions of the desert when I visited there.

Intrepid

My intrepid classmate was bold enough to not answer one question on his homework to prove to his classmates that he was not the teacher’s pet.

Maverick

I heard the word maverick get tossed around so much when talking about McCain, I had to look up in what way was McCain considered an independent minded person even though he belonged to the Republican Party.

Obdurate

My teacher hates when students are obdurate when she tells them to do a problem on the board.

Obstinate

My family had been having trouble overcoming the obstinate problem of unemployment.

Proliferate

I learned in my science class that bacteria can proliferate on almost any surface.

Tenacity

I have the tenacity of super glue to a fake nail to my laptop. You have to pry it away from in order to borrow it.

Vitality

I wish I had the vitality of some of the other teachers I worked with because my mentor teacher always recommended I heighten the level of energy.

Assimilation

I am hoping I will be assimilated well into Occidental’s atmosphere because the last thing I want is to be a misfit.

Consensus

There was an overall consensus amongst the class that we wanted to buy a hall for our party.

Context

I could tell from the context of the situation that someone was getting suspended for public displays of affection.

Derived

The idea of being a midwife derived from my initial compassion for children and pregnant women.

Incumbent

I couldn’t give up my responsibility as the incumbent president of the committee for a basketball game.

Inevitable

It’s inevitable that I got too tired to do homework after coming home from the gym.

Malleable

I have a lot of friends that are malleable anytime they are told they will be rewarded with food.

Subdue

It was difficult to subdue the feelings she had for new husband. They were always walking hand in hand.

Acquired

The skills I have acquired in high school will allow me to be successful in college.

Conception

I look forward to studying every aspect of conception in college.

Conviction

My cousin will hear his conviction on his birthday. That’s not the best birthday gift but I was always taught to take responsibility for my actions.

Dogmatic

My mom speaks to me about everything dogmatically as if she knows for sure that I won’t transfer from Occidental.

Enlightening

I often find my church services to be enlightening after I go even if I didn’t want to go in the beginning.

Impression

I was under the impression that the test was tomorrow not Thursday.

Intuition

I have a very strong intuition that I won’t be able to get my tuition paid off by graduation.

Misconception

It is a very common misconception that all organic food is significantly more expensive than conventionally grown food.

Perception

My little brother can’t even handle the slightest perception of pain. He cried when he fell of his bike the first time and barely grazed his knee on the concrete.

Perspective

When I visited Occidental, I was called a “Prospy” as a nickname for prospective students.

Profound

A lot of people I know have a profound ability to have a flowing conversation with people they’ve just met.

Inherent

Being a service station worker is one of the jobs that has the most inherent danger incorporated into it.

Innate

I wish I had the innate ability to read and study for hours on hand.

Inveterate

I have a very bad inveterate cursing problem when I’m upset.

Omnipotent

I hate it when TV ads try and advertise cleaning products as if they are omnipotent.

Proximity

I learned about using proximity when teaching a class. Von told us the closer you are too the student the more likely they are to pay attention to what you are saying.

Elusive

A lot of nurses tell me my veins are elusive when they are trying to draw blood.

Emigrate

I would like to some day emigrate from the United States to Europe.

Transient

A lot of students have transient attention spans and can’t make it through a class without talking about something off topic.

Transitory

I’m hoping some sort of transitory job or something to earn money to pay off my tuition.

Affable

I wish I had the ability to come off as affable when I’m in a group of people I don’t know. Instead many people tell me I look mad all the time.

Amenable

I try to be as amenable as possible to other people’s suggestions in meetings.

Camaraderie

There’s a genuine camaraderie between our classmates because we’ve spent so much time together and had the opportunity to really get to know each other.

Cordially

The hostess on horseback cordially invited me to the banquet.

Facetious

His facetious attitude about the handicapped woman’s inability to walk normally because of nerve damage disgusted me.

Impinge

I didn’t mean to impinge on the meeting and have the director speak to me about courtesy the next day.

Lament

I lamented over the death of my dog for about a month. I thought I would’ve moved on from that before then.

Melancholy

Rainy days create a very melancholy vibe around campus because a lot of people seem down.

Sanction

Some students have to be sanctioned more than other before the teacher just can’t take anymore and gives students detentions.

Truncated

I’m thinking I might get my dress truncated for graduation because the top and the bottom both are a little too long.

Aesthetic

I hope someday my house has an initially beautiful aesthetic like one of my artsy friend’s parent’s house.

Anthology

I have seen a lot of anthologies in Wal-Mart of artists that have died.

Contemporary

I have come to find that I enjoy contemporary designs more than traditional ones.

Dilettante

I like to tell people that I have a very dilettante interest in the arts, specifically fashion.

Eclectic

I was eclectic when I read that Occidental had accepted me into the class of 2014.

Excerpt

I read an excerpt from Shakespeare’s Othello for a presentation on deception and backstabbing.

Genre

I like all genres of music and books except for metal and mysteries.

Medley

I have a strong interest in a medley of different dress designs, which makes choosing a graduation dress even more difficult.

Mural

Some students the school painted murals on the walls as a farewell.

Narrative

I’ve read so many narratives in my English classes that I have no choice but to recognize one when I read one.
